Types of Jodhpurs and Breeches
As all riders know, wearing the correct riding pant (whether it be breeches or jodhpurs)s helps riders feel comfortable in the saddle and perform better. Different situations or event call for different types of pants but a great fitting pair of riding pants is crucial to effective riding.
Riding pants are generally tight-fitting and commonly made of spandex or a cotton-polyester fabric blend. Self seat jodhpurs are the most basic type where the same cotton fabric is used for the whole of the Jodhpur, including the seat. These are generally the most inexpensive jodhpurs and are great for general use, pony club and around the stables. These can come in any colours or colour combination. HorseBiz has a huge variety of two tone jodhpurs to add a bit of colour to your outfit.
Some breeches have a suede or synthetic suede seat which are also referred to as sticky bum breeches or full seat breeches. Full-seat breeches contain an insert that runs from the knee across the buttocks and down the inside of both legs. These are more expensive due to the fabric used but give the rider extra grip in the saddle. There are also variation on this where the suede insert may just be a knee patch. HorseBiz has a fantastic selection of full seat breeches in many colours including check breeches and plain colours
Denim breeches are very popular as they are durable and great for use around the paddock or stables and fro training. Again these are generally available in full seat options.
Recently there is a move towards more breathable fabrics or lighter lycra fabrics that give further comfort to the rider and, in a modern touch, mobile phone holders are now being incorporated into today’s breeches
Another recent trend has been silicone print jodhpurs or silicone seat breeches are a twist on the traditional suede full seat. These give similar or even superior grip to the suede but the silicone print in less restrictive than the full suede seat. The silicone print breeches are usually also made from lighted fabric and also incorporate a lycra sock which adds further comfort to the rider
